She was mid-pillow-fluff when she heard the bedroom door open. Nothing mattered in that moment besides the face that came through the door. “Dad!” Melody dropped the pillow and ran over to her father, hugging him tightly and hiding the tears that inevitably welled up.

“I missed you so much! I knew you’d come back.. Welcome home, Dad.” She held the hug for a long time, not wanting to let go.

ᵐᵉ ᵗᵒᵒ She bit her tongue, keeping that first thought to herself. “You’re back now, that’s all that matters.” Mel pulled back just enough to give him a kiss on the cheek, and then pulled back to show a teary-eyed smile.

“.. I got accepted by Brakebills University.” She wasn’t sure if he remembered she had even been trying for them. Her smile beamed. She was so excited to tell him, but worried that might not be good news to him.. “I don’t start classes until next semester, in the Spring.”

Melody was relieved, worried that he wouldn’t be too excited about her going off to university. She hugged him back, super excited! “Thanks, Dad!”
