Jesus' baptism (Mark 1.9-13) springs the weight of the three bloody hardest-to-square stories in the Bible: Noah, Abraham, and Job. In many ways the shock of them all is leveraged against this moment where Jesus becomes the Ram, Dry Land, and the Servant, considered.

Certainly it is far more than selflessness, but he’s right that what we call β€œpower” is displayed in a changed life when the Gospel takes root in a person. It may not be well understood by a watching world, but it should be hard to missβ€”whether in public or ordinary life.

The way of Christianity is never easy, but always more beautiful. Be careful if you insist on loving those nearest to you, for in Christ they are re-ordered, hungry for what we have, less foreign from us than we thought, more worthy of us than we imagined.

Weddings and funerals are high stress events in the church but they also beautify the church. Hope in both, covenant in both. Singing in both. Christian churches who know how to minister both kinds of gatherings will bless the world.

I don’t have a platform, but I have the bedside of an 11 yr old struggling through treatments for stage 4 cancer. 2 Cor 1 at work in and through me. I think I was reciting Psalm 23 with her in the left pic + she was reading a book to me on right. (Shared with permission) St. Jude

Birthday resolutions have been captured by the leaders and theologians of antiquity. You can read them lots of places. Inspiring! They’re all fine but I have this for year forty-seven: I will enter year 48, Lord-willing, having stopped making noise every time I rise or sit.

This is great to hear. We can put so much faith in social factors and trend lines and forget that the Spirit moves where he will.

Quickly, while people are still wondering: you WANT to be left behind. In nearly every Biblical instance of people being "taken away" or "swept away" it is the wicked that are taken. We aren't meant to leave the earth, but to steward and redeem it.

TK’s critics accuse him of being a culturalist, but he’s most known for teaching the Gospel. Meanwhile his critics style themselves to be more biblical, but are most known for their takes on culture.

Friends- This is a tough note to write, but since a bunch of you have started to suspect something, I’ll cut to the chase: Last week I was diagnosed with metastasized, stage-four pancreatic cancer, and am gonna die. Advanced pancreatic is nasty stuff; it’s a death sentence.
