4 Sept 1939, New Zealand-born Surgeon Archibald McIndoe set up the new Centre for Plastic & Jaw Surgery at Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead, to treat injured airmen in #WW2. Cousin of Sir Harold Gillies, father of modern plastic surgery, who did pioneering work in #WW1.
