Thank you Naomi for pointing this out. I agree that much better should be expected from Durham University and the Durham University Alumni team. Protecting freedom of expression is central to the work of a University but celebrating acts that are clearly causing serious harm is quite another.

My thoughts today are with the family of PC Keith Palmer GM, killed 7 years ago today in the line of duty, defending parliament from attack. Giving thanks for him and for all those who risk themselves to protect others.

It's very interesting that this announcement comes so quickly on the heels of the decision by The Church of England to offer similar blessings to individuals in same-sex relationships (not their relationship) - thus sidestepping the Gordian Knot as to whether gay sex is a sin or not..
