If this is the case, then business rates and furlough support, must continue for the rest of the year too! Particularly when rates support is already extended in Wales and Scotland! Lucy Powell MP Kate Nicholls OBE @starpubsandbars Jo Cox-Brown (FIPM) Ed Bedington

I have enjoyed Reading John Micklethwaites book on Government excess and over-reach The Wake Up Call......worth a read if you are a student of society and how it is governed.

Retailers have long experienced the different behaviours of the UK public and it comes as no surprise that some behave rather poorly in regard to their fellow shoppers and communities. There is no revelation in this, it has always been thus.

Our team have been slowly coming out of hibernation, some have recently received a jab, others still young enough await with eager anticipation. Two intrepid members have soldiered on working with a fashion client on productivity, saving expected £M's when we return. Speak soon X

Times article, unable to be linked here, is stating that plans are afoot to ensure labelling defines the way an animal has lived & the manner in which it died, highlighting the Halal meat practice adoption generally. Will it make people think about the beasts final moments more ?

Listening to BBC Radio 4 yesterday and hearing that garden centres are potentially running out of outside furniture due to a 3 day blockage in the Suez Canal. If supply chains were that hand to mouth on garden furniture then we should all be worried, rather underforecast !

The best NED's are those that understand they are there to challenge when things look odd, wrong or not in the interest of the Co. without jeopardising their career. We have witnessed a broad spectrum from, nodding heads through to frustrated CEO's ... thetimes.co.uk/article/non-ex…

To think the value of a property on the high street is now the same as it was pre-Covid and to then prevent any contest on this seems harsh. Should rates and rents follow similar routes and be completely market led ? thetimes.co.uk/article/ban-on…

We are sure that many UK retailers have had a cold shower in light of the Boohoo story. In essence getting really cheap clothing produced in the UK should always have been a red flag, as it should from any supplier not visited unnanounced. thetimes.co.uk/article/boohoo…

We encourage more journo's to cast an eye over what's happening with the ethical cotton business and associated material sourcing. No doubt that legislation will be forthcoming to expedite sustainable change, but the consumer has more immediate power thetimes.co.uk/article/burber…

The difficulty in dealing with autocratic states and the hold they have on a population was seen in Russia, yet there it was more about localised corruption, here it seems the problem is less "buyable". Retail diplomacy is going to be tested...... thetimes.co.uk/article/h-amp-…

Tesco are doing what they do, making money and reviving their image in continuation of the Lewis era. Many will have a go and suggest they are profiteering. Numerous competitors will look and wonder why they could not do the same. Tesco is perhaps more meritocratic ? Is it ?

High Street feedback is strong, but not everywhere. The reality about the pandemic is that too many people have learnt to do without, shop online, not go into the office, not go out, and have also had family members lose income from retail or hospitality. Waiting for the bounce ?

I have never seen a gifting event for Christmas lane as empty for launch. Grim. Very real risk of seasonal lines landing v close to event end which then either causes markdown, or working capital impacts as stock is held over (non food?). All questions for Sir Dave.
