I’m proud to announce $716,000 for Horizon Health to treat teens and young adults struggling with substance abuse through its SAFER program. This will help students receive screening and support from school district professionals like Evan Vahratian, whose work is saving lives.
New to the Buffalo Niagara International Airport: the Reflection Room dedicated for travelers looking to pray, meditate, and practice their faith in a serene environment. Thank you to the NFTA for investing in a world class traveling experience for residents and visitors alike.
Today I visited the African American Veterans Monument (African American Veterans Monument) at the Buffalo Naval Park 🇺🇸. This powerful tribute honors the sacrifices of WNY's Black veterans throughout American history. We salute their selfless service & extraordinary bravery!
At the Town of Cheektowaga’s Veterans Resource Fair, I met with veterans and their families about how my office can assist them with accessing the services they deserve, such as medical care and benefits thanks to the PACT Act. Our heroes in Western New York deserve nothing less.
The City of Good Neighbors turned out today to hear from James E. Clyburn at Delaine Waring AMEC AME. They heard his message of hope, determination, and resilience and how we are working to make life better for people in WNY, South Carolina, and across our nation.
Inspired as ever by James E. Clyburn’s address. His words, “America’s greatness is not that she is more enlightened than other nations, it’s that she’s willing to repair her faults" underscore our need to act for progress.
Yesterday the Buffalo-Niagara tour with James E. Clyburn continued at the Niagara Falls UGRR Heritage Center. Here we took a deeper look into the critical role Buffalo and Niagara Falls played in the Underground Railroad.
It’s not a trip to Western New York without taking in the beauty of one of the natural wonders of the world, Niagara Falls! I was honored to be here with James E. Clyburn.
Today James E. Clyburn & I visited Forest Lawn, where the Hon. Shirley Chisholm is laid to rest. Elected in 1968, she was the first Black woman in Congress and a pioneering presidential candidate, serving 7 terms and championing education, health care, and civil rights.
This morning we also had the honor of walking through the Michigan Street African American Heritage Corridor with James E. Clyburn. This area tells the living story of Buffalo's key role in the fight for freedom, cultural expression, and self-determination.
Our next stop with James E. Clyburn was the Michigan St. Baptist Church, known as an Underground Railroad stop and a symbol of hope for those fleeing slavery in the South. It was humbling to reflect on the contributions and sacrifices so many have made and continue to make.
This Labor Day, I'm honored to support workers as part of the Labor Caucus, advocating for higher wages, enhanced workplace safety, and better benefits. Our nation's workers are the foundation of our economy and we will never stop fighting for them.
