When people say: “You’re not autistic!” Then at other times say: “You’re so [weird, shy, anxious, dramatic, distant, sensitive, rude, inappropriate and bad at reading the room]” It’s like they would rather deny a person an accurate label and pathologise their behaviour instead.

Be careful telling an Autistic person to “take as long as you need”. We may take this statement literally and still not be done with the matter three weeks later. If there’s no deadline, then that’s cool, but if you have a deadline in mind it’s a good idea to share it.

Autistic people may not always say yes to social invitations, but that doesn’t mean we don’t want to receive them. Many of us can’t say yes to all (or even most) things due to sensory, energy, and executive function related challenges, yet like to have the option and be included.

A less discussed reason why Autistic and ADHD people can get burnt out in the workplace is that, when we work, we tend to pour all our energy and focus into it. In contrast, most people tend to approach work more leisurely, dividing their focus and regularly pausing to chit-chat.
