#Ableg Fact: Slashing nurses wages “saves”Albertans ~$150M. I have a WAY better idea: - Cancel Corporate Welfare = $4,700,000.000 - Reinforce Carbon Levy = $1,700,000,000 - Cancel War Room -= $120,000,000 - Fire Ben Harper / Matt Wolf = $1,296,000/4 yrs Total: 6,521,206,000

It's times like this smack my head. Instead of having a conversation about community resilience and the pros and cons of a thing, some jump to rediculous conclusions that end discussion and set us back as a community. Healthy communities have dialogue x.com/lynayanb/statu…

@Brentrjharris8 I think there is context here. We closed a fire station with Don through one of his many labour fights and this week we've been hearing about push for volunteers. It makes sense to be concerned about our plan for firefighters. Make sure you wear a helmet when smaking your head

Mat G We've been hearing from community members in Saint John that we should have a volunteer force since 2011. There was a presentation made by the chief then to address the question about it. It basically comes back every council as we look at large line items on the budget.

@Brentrjharris8 I'd be interested in understanding what segment or who within our community is advocating for volunteer firefighters and what's motivating that. Regardless, we've been talking about global warming and pollution since the 90s. Probably a better reason to be hitting your head.

Mat G The members I talk to asking for it are working class ppl (admittedly who I know more of) in the trades sector who struggle with the budget cuts we are making to stay solvent. They don't necessarily see the big picture but many struggle with unions. Not my view but what I hear

@Brentrjharris8 Same ppl who think teachers and nurses are overpaid? Some ppl can't handle they are busting their asses and finding out teachers, nurses, cops, firefighters make more then them.. Tell these ppl to shut up and remind them that ppl who work at Tim's probably work harder than them

Brent Harris (@brent4sj) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Mat G Ouch, not something I'm going to say to a plumber who runs a 4 person team and work 70 hour weeks sometimes responding to emergency calls. Or a roofer, or anyone. I'm not here to judge who works hardder. But these are the conversations happening weather we like it or not.

Mat G (@matg82) 's Twitter Profile Photo

@Brentrjharris8 Why would a plumber working 70 hours a week with team of 4 take the time to tell you we need to go volunteer for firefighters? What's the context behind that?

Brent Harris (@brent4sj) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Mat G Because I work with them on jobsites and now that I'm an "elected official" I get all the "why the f#-"& is this city the way it is" conversations. Plus I just came off a campaign that had a lot of public engagement. I got all kinds of calls/emails about a range of things.

NB Power was required by the province to supply $9.7 million in electricity subsidies to six pulp and paper mills last year even as it was losing money and sinking deeper into debt itself. cbc.ca/news/canada/ne…

Subsidies supplied by NB Power for six mills began in January 2012 to help companies struggling with low pulp and paper prices. As markets improved (green line) the subsidies remained.
