Rev. John Dyer Richards, Hedd Wyn's mentor and friend, was the winner of Emile De Vynck’s Ystrad Mynach bardic chair. But it turns out he actually won TWO of Emile’s chairs! We’ve found out about the 1921 Hirwaun Eisteddfod, but not yet found the chair... refugeesinrhyl.wordpress.com/chairs/#Belgia…
We can find evidence of only one family of First World War #BelgianRefugees returning to our area as Refugees in the Second World War. Meet the Family Verbeeck, who twice sought exile in Conwy Borough: refugeesinrhyl.wordpress.com/return/ Thanks to HistoryPoints for the extra info.
Attended a Refugee Week Wales webinar today with @DrAndreaHammel via @welshrefcouncil, exploring themes of migration both current & historic. Really interesting discussion and Q&A. Thank you, Andrea, Larysa, Heewr and Sabiha.
Our latest chapter, published today, led to a search for Belgian-made stained glass in England and Belgian war lace in Swansea. Read about #BelgianRefugees Walter Vosch in Llanfair DC, Jules Vosch in Culworth and Denise Huybrecht in Swansea here: refugeesinrhyl.wordpress.com/vosch/ @WWiertz
A brand new chapter published today - all about the Belgian Soldiers at Brynkinalt Military Hospital and the #BelgianRefugees who stayed in Chirk. We've had loads of help from Mireille in Belgium and Lady Trevor at Kate Hill-Trevor Hall. Have a look: refugeesinrhyl.wordpress.com/brynkinalt/
One of the bardic chairs carved by #BelgianRefugees appeared on BBC's Antiques Roadshow on Sunday. Emile De Vynck wasn't mentioned, but it's worth a look to see his work. Visit bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00… and click the "Beaumaris 2" link. Read more: refugeesinrhyl.wordpress.com/chairs/
