Western Mail 13/5/1921: "The bardic chair for the Anglesey County Eisteddfod next week has been made by a Belgian". Where is this chair? Possibly carved by Emile De Vynck, his most prolific year was 1921. We need to find it! Can you help? refugeesinrhyl.wordpress.com/chairs/ @huws_hc

Rev. John Dyer Richards, Hedd Wyn's mentor and friend, was the winner of Emile De Vynck’s Ystrad Mynach bardic chair. But it turns out he actually won TWO of Emile’s chairs! We’ve found out about the 1921 Hirwaun Eisteddfod, but not yet found the chair... refugeesinrhyl.wordpress.com/chairs/#Belgia…

"Belgian Refugees in Rhyl" is 10 years old. In February 2014 we had the name of just one Belgian Refugee. Now we have over 500 and have told many of their stories. Thanks Christophe! Thanks Mireille! Thanks to everyone who has given us any information. Our search continues...

Lots of information arrived this morning from a researcher in Belgium, helping me write the story of the Family Vandeputte who were #BelgianRefugees in Rhyl. More to do, but it's all falling into place...

We can find evidence of only one family of First World War #BelgianRefugees returning to our area as Refugees in the Second World War. Meet the Family Verbeeck, who twice sought exile in Conwy Borough: refugeesinrhyl.wordpress.com/return/ Thanks to HistoryPoints for the extra info.

A huge new find this week! A bureau carved by Emile De Vynck, one of Pentrefelin's #BelgianRefugees, which is still with the owner's family in Abersoch. But there is a hidden piece of history in one of the drawers... Take a look: refugeesinrhyl.wordpress.com/chairs/

Attended a Refugee Week Wales webinar today with @DrAndreaHammel via @welshrefcouncil, exploring themes of migration both current & historic. Really interesting discussion and Q&A. Thank you, Andrea, Larysa, Heewr and Sabiha.

In Aberdyfi today on the trail of the delightfully-named Dovey Meiriona Broucksom, named after "Aberdovey" (English spelling) & "Meirionydd" (the county.) Dovey was born to #BelgianRefugees Albert Broucksom & Anna Marcus in 1915. Baptised in St. Peter's Church, in this font.

A Rhyl man was hugely important to the care of #BelgianRefugeesthroughout the whole of the UK. He was Edward Tudor Jones, OBE. Read about him here: bit.ly/3Zljc0z (Contains themes some may find distressing.)

I'm in Trefaldwyn (Montgomery) Powys today. This house was once home to #BelgianRefugees, including Louise Mertens, a "maid of all trades" seeking a job as a housemaid through the pages of L'Indépendance Belge, May 4th, 1915.

Back in 2019 we published a chapter about #BelgianRefugees in Holywell, Flintshire. But it pays to keep reviewing our research as we've now found a photo of the confirmation of 14 Belgian children in the town. Names and details of the event are here: refugeesinrhyl.wordpress.com/holywell/
