A few reasons I worry when .Jake Richards MP says “we must balance the temptation for prescriptive primary legislation &the need to trust clinicians” 1. Black women are 3.7x more likely to die during pregnancy/childbirth vs White Women on the watch of trusted clinicians 1/n

I'm proud to say that my research is published in Social Media + Society. For over a decade I've studied colorism, Black beauty influencers, & platform labor. The great thing is that it is open access, so anyone can read it! journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/20…

The greatest day for Man City. How he treated Jill, Steph. Lucy, Keira, Demi and Chloe Kelly in their final season at City is criminal!

Kim Leadbeater claims today her bill has been “thoroughly strengthened” in Committee. Views may differ. Here’s what the Committee thinks MPs should sign off

Leadbeater’s #dignityindying #assisteddying multidisciplinary panel of experts is contingent on a structural coupling of the legal, social, and psychiatric system all agreeing what autonomy, dignity, coercion, abuse and capacity, means. Good luck with that.

An #AssistedDyingBill 'demands extreme sensitivity, a willingness to listen and to admit you are wrong.. and a determination to legislate with the vulnerable in mind – not the pattern of misrepresentation and bad-faith political ploys..' A woeful tale capx.co/the-rotten-sto…

Alicia also raised concerns around the drugs used to end people's lives. Far from offering a peaceful death, the little available evidence shows that patients' lungs are drowned after they are paralysed, she said.

Rees Johnson specialises in the racial and cultural context of assisted dying, and argued that this Bill risks deepening health inequalities at the end of life. He also raised the challenge of identifying coercion and feeling like a burden in different cultural contexts.

We know the state of palliative care is poor, with many people not receiving the care they need, and stark inequalities. We have decades of research telling us that. What is needed is high quality palliative care available to all.

Ahead of today’s assisted dying Bill debate, I thought I’d do a thread of FALSE FACTS. You know… campaigning soundbites, PR spin. That come up again and again. And are persuasive… but wrong.

For the mover of a bill to present such a huge number of amendments to their *own* bill suggests a serious lack of confidence in its safety and rigour. In 20 years I’ve not seen anything so shambolic. Even supporters of the bill must surely see that the bill can’t pass like this.

Compassion was also used to justify colonialism, slavery, the New Poor Laws, and the removal of indigenous children from their families in Canada!
