No castle today as I've finally remembered that I need to graduate my masters degree, so am wearing special robes in Oxford for the day...

#HillfortsWednesday Earlier this year Cymru/Wales received nation-wide 1m resolution #LiDAR - incredible! A huge benefit of this new data is a fresh view of every #hillfort in Wales 🤩 📷 Tre'r Ceiri hillfort on the Llŷn Peninsula. Stunning detail of this special site 👇

Anyone have any idea what this is popping out of the LIDAR via Local Dominance, in Herefordshire. Assuming its just much older field patterns. Useful to note its on the edge of an area of what was once wetland.

Found an intriguing HER entry: "The priory of St Mary Magdalene was founded between 1178-84 but because of outrageous behaviour of the nuns they were removed before 1204 and the nunnery was not re-established."

Rather striking collection of earthworks in Glynde, Sussex. If I've found the right reference they're largely undated with some 19th century farm remains mixed in: Chances are I haven't found the right reference, but neat all the same! thekeep.info/collections/ge…

Tilty Abbey in the dark last night, supposedly these little bits remain because death would come to anyone that broke them down... See also the church whose strange proportions are the result of half being the remains of the, rather large, old abbey gateway chapel.

7th century chapel of St Peter-on-the-wall inside the Roman shore fort of Othona. Apparently you can hear ghostly hooves here but I think the spectral horses might have been sleeping today

So sad to learn that R I Moore, one of the great medievalists of his generation, has died. Not just a scholar who changed the way that the evolution of Latin Christendom - & heresy especially - is understood, but an unfailingly kind & generous man. RIP.
