Found within 100m of each other in Kirbymoorside, NY. 3 different hands and complete cover. My fear is that we are losing these and are in a time & place where the morality of using lime exceeds regional variability. It would seem Yorkshire, like Scotland has clung on to these.

Can you imagine living in the same house for 105 years? Elsie was born in her Huthwaite home 💕

And yes, it appears on the 1921 Census - can you spot it?

Every now and then I find one that is a knockout, this in Kirbymoorside. It demonstrates the importance of looking in those awkward spaces. A full roughcast which had been lined out, but the lining is (I think) to compress the mortar rather than formalise it. 🧵

Excellent remnants of a painted scheme on these 13th century arches in St. Mary’s Church, Gamlingay, Cambridgeshire 😍🤩
A tempting glimpse of the colour and ornamentation that once was so common place.

Provincial Gothic frescoes painted in the 1460s found in one of the towers of the defensive wall of Honigberg/ Harman fortified church, in Saxon Transylvania. They were whitewashed at the Reformation and discovered in the 1920s during restoration works.

One of the many historic and beautiful homes to be found here in Cambridgeshire, although I think this one is extra- gorgeous! It dates largely from the mid-late 15th century, with some 16th century additions 😍

I think we have been too swift in dismissing multiple layers of wash as overburden, something to be removed to access the ‘true’ architecture below. Setting aside the functionality, I find it strangely satisfying. Bernard Castle, probs need my eyes testing?
