Today I’ve written to Robert Jenrick calling for more support for local councils to help our residents as the Covid crisis continues. Local government should not have to bear these costs without further government support
Government should have made this decision yesterday, but again have failed to deliver. Instead Southwark Council once again steps in to provide for our residents, delivering free school meals throughout the upcoming half term, doing our part to #ENDCHILDFOODPOVERTY
Ahead of the Comprehensive Spending Review @kieronjwilliams and I have written to Rishi Sunak asking for a sustainable & long term funding settlement for local govt. We are facing cuts of £26million, further crippling our ability to support our residents at this critical time.
Tonight Southwark Labour presents our 21/22 Budget, which protects the most vulnerable, invests in our young people, tackles the climate emergency, and celebrates the diversity of our Borough. Together we are building a better future for the people of Southwark #labourinpower
It's been great to be part of Giles Lury and Katy Mousinho's latest book on Wonder Women - telling the stories of so many brilliant women in marketing
Delighted we will be delivering accessible, reliable, affordable (or free in the case of Free Swim & Gym) leisure services in-house. A journey we started when I was the Leisure Cabinet Member, carried on by CllrCatherineRose and now being delivered under @Alicemac83
In 2017 Peter John as Leader of the Council had the foresight to offer financial support from Southwark Council to the Central School of Ballet to bring them to Southwark. It’s amazing to have such a wonderful institution on my doorstep offering everything from beginners to professional classes
This evening I presented Southwark Labour’s 2022-23 budget. I’m so glad I don’t have to leave a note for my successor saying there is no money left and am leaving the Council with an ambitious set of new commitments for the coming year
Pagefield Partner Rebecca Lury spoke to POLITICOEurope about how May's local elections give Labour an opportunity to further demonstrate its readiness for the next general election, urging the Party to continue raising the profiles of its rising stars in the Shadow Cabinet.
