Glad that watermelons made it to the world news. They contributed and significantly aided the much needed information for the resistance despite the great many risks breathing on their necks. The people of Myanmar are in this together to be free from brutal military oppression

Why Myanmar military has been facing so many military defeats at the hands of the resistance forces - this in-depth investigation by Rebecca Henschke at BBC News (World) BBC News မြန်မာ explains. We have been fighting without any external support but winning thanks to these spies.

Just adding some additional context here: the rebel leader Daeva featured here was a student activist D Nyein Lynn who were active in civil society before the coup from helping with Covid-19 relief to public transport. This shows how much the revolution is organic.

The #Myanmar resistance came a long way since taking on the junta after the latter's failed coup in early 2021. The BBC doc shows the resistance organising junta defections and the workings of the insurgent's spy network. Anger abt the junta's brutality overcomes fear of reprisal

The BBC investigation reveals that #Myanmar military lost control of large part of the country and found that the military only has full control of 21% of Myanmar's territory. It is also cracking from within .. ##WhatsHappeninglnMyanmar

#Myanmar’s illegal military junta is deeply unpopular and lacks legitimacy. It is also slowly losing control of the country. Now is the time for the international community to recognize National Unity Government Myanmar and help end this dictatorship.🇲🇲

It’s been a very tumultuous 24 hours but the most harrowing thing is that many of my colleagues at Radio Free Asia who risk their lives and have sat in prison for daring to report on authoritarian regimes are at grave risk. Please raise awareness: rfa.org/english/china/…

RFA does amazing reporting in the most difficult conditions in this region - especially Myanmar, Vietnam and Cambodia. We rely on them a lot - this is a real blow to us, to transparency accountability in Asia, to keeping people informed about what’s really going on. Very sad.

The attacks are "completely outrageous and unacceptable". Special Rapporteur Tom Andrews told the BBC that it was "nothing short of incredible" that the military was continuing to "drop bombs when you are trying to rescue people" after the earthquake. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

No rescue work at a pre-school reduced to rubble in Myanmar. There were believed to be about 70 children at the school when the earthquake struck. Mothers came and called out the names of their children, but no one rescue workers are helping them. bbc.co.uk/news/live/c04z…

The death toll from Myanmar's earthquake haw now risen to well over 2,000 and can be expected to climb much higher as the destruction emerges from areas cut off by war. Yet another blow for a country where millions had already lost almost everything. #WhatsHappeningInMyanmar

Thank you The Society of Publishers in Asia for this. And of course to the brave Burmese reporters who told the extraordinary story of the Watermelons - military spies. Myanmar remains one the most dangerous places to be a journalist. Can’t forget what is happening there.
