At September’s Mayberry Days, the award for the “Idol Competition” went to Donna Hope! Hope, pictured here with Barney Fife, spontaneously entered the competition to make people laugh. Mayberry Days gives fans an opportunity like no other to connect with such a meaningful show.

How many TV shows can say they have an entire museum dedicated to them? The Andy Griffith Museum gives patrons an opportunity to learn all about the show, interact with replica sets, and view real props! This is one way the real Mayberry honors its connection to Andy Griffith.

“Citizens Arrest” which aired in December of 1963 was recently ranked as the best Andy Griffith episode by Goldderby.com. In it, Barney resigns as deputy after an embarrassing citizens arrest by Gomer after a traffic violation. What’s your favorite episode?

Other than Andy, two of the most interesting people to have ever lived in Mt. Airy are conjoined twins Eng and Chang Bunker. They moved to Mt. Airy in 1839 to escape the limelight of people interested in their condition. They married two women and ended up fathering 21 children!

If Mt. Airy is the Real Mayberry then Gene Rees is the real Andy. He’s lived in Mt. Airy his whole life and embodies all the best qualities of the star. Check out the film to see why Rees is so beloved by the town he calls home and the role he plays in transforming the downtown.

In all of history there have been only three shows that went off the air while holding the number one spot. The Andy Griffith show was one of them when it left the air in 1968. Can you guess the other two?

The fictional Mayberry often made subtle nods to the real Mayberry. One small, easy to miss easter egg is the phone book from the episode “A Black Day for Mayberry”: it's actually a Mt. Airy phone book! What's your favorite Mt. Airy easter egg in the show? buff.ly/3lWcGpw

Ron Howard, who you may remember as Opie Taylor, has come a long way from Mayberry. You may know him now from his work directing films like A Beautiful Mind and Parenthood. The Oscar winning director says he still remembers his time on AGS and with Andy himself very fondly.

Did you know the Andy Griffith Show wasn’t originally set in Mayberry? The town was originally called Mt. Pilot, named after the nearby Pilot Mountain! It was only later changed to the Mayberry we all know now. (source: buff.ly/3mynMl5)

In all eight seasons of The Andy Griffith Show there has only ever been one holiday themed episode. “The Christmas Story” first broadcast on December 19, 1960 tells the story of Andy transforming the jail into a joyous Christmas party, and enlisting Barney as Santa Claus.

Betty Lynn has meant so much to all the fans of the Andy Griffith Show and all the residents and visitors of Mt. Airy throughout the years. We're sad to hear of her passing, but thankful we got the opportunity to meet her and include her in our film. buff.ly/3aUygb8
