A hospital staff becomes unconscious in the hospital and nobody is rushing to administer first aid. That's unacceptable.

A hospital employee (not a walk-in patient) collapsed, and the staff simply stood around watching. Some recording with their phones. No one reacted with urgency. Everyone is waiting for instructions before acting. There is no life-saving instinct in these people.

Yes, focus on the micro. ‘Empathy’ is not what makes you keep admitting babies to this point when you have only one house officer on staff. Then one active one falls down in the middle of the night and dislodges its IV and bleeds out. And the family sues you for ‘negligence’.

Giving first aid before referral is important, but it doesn’t solve the root causes of “no-bed syndrome.” We need real systemic reforms expanded capacity, better referral coordination, and clear accountability not just directives. Frontline workers deserve support, not blame.

In this particular instance? I am on the side of the healthcare workers. Majority of you are speaking from a place of ignorance. There are systemic issues that plague our healthcare facilities that cannot and should not be resolved by individualistic endeavours.

This is what shocks me. Like HCW contributing money to buy drugs, do labs, buy food for patients. Beg for medication, beg for X-rays and ultrasound and even sometimes beg the relatives to care for their own family member. Ghanaian HCW are too empathetic to a fault.
