Alongside a third of the staff, I was laid off from The Intercept today. I was the only staffer both reporting & editing on the environment beat. TI was my dream job. I’m grateful to have done such meaningful work alongside whip-smart, passionate colleagues & friends.

I've been laid off from The Intercept. Working at TI has been the most formative experience of my career — it's where I learned to edit and report and manage a newsroom. Forever grateful for the many comrades and friends I made over the past 6+ years — the best part of it all.

I've known José since his days in TI's fellowship program. Honestly, I can't say enough good things about him, both as a colleague and friend. Diligent, dogged, compassionate — he's a reporter's reporter and a hell of a good person. Editors, you'd be a fool not to hire this kid.
