Corporate cultures of health are easier to build when companies have established a culture of safety. The parallels are remarkable. Near misses are the same as health risks. We can make changes to prevent catastrophic events in both cases.

As we advance the many technologies of population health, traditional case management remains an essential component with a significant ROI. With increasing complexity to benefits, health care navigation & treatment the assistance of a case manager remains impactful.

To achieve cultures of health we must organize professional marketing campaigns to counter the incessant promotion of unhealthy options. These campaigns must convert or at least augment extrinsic rewards in favor of establishing intrinsic reasons to make healthy choices.

Workplace health centers must do more than provide occupational health & episodic illness care. They must provide comprehensive primary care, referral management & population health. They must be the hub that connects the ten best practices required to build cultures of health.

When establishing a company’s Medical / Rx trend it is important to include all costs - the employees premium, co-pays, co-insurance and deductible as well as the organization’s pay out. This will root out cost shifting and acknowledge true bending of medical inflation.

As a physician executive who managed SARS as GE Global Medical Director & as CMO for Thompson Reuter’s during the Japanese tsunami aftermath, I learn two lessons about pandemic / emergency response. Information is therapy and over-react early. Back off slowly.

Returned from the HERO forum 2022. It was great to gather & share thoughts. I participated in 2 talks. 1 featured the importance of creating an annual culture of health and well-being report to demonstrate organizational commitment & track progress. All employers should do this!
