Too many schools invalidate the perspectives and experiences of kids who live in poverty, and thereby push them away from school. Every child’s experience matters, regardless of socioeconomic status.

A calm, integrated adult is a child's primary Safe Place. Helping a child move from an upset state to a composed one requires us to remain calm. Our inner state helps regulate the child's inner state. So our first step is always to actively calm ourselves.

We spend over $8 Billion dollars a year on teacher attrition (turnover) and probably more this year. Imagine if we spent the money on actually trying to retain teachers instead.

When I walk in a school, I don’t just observe to see if front office or teachers are happy. I observe custodians, cafeteria workers, everyone. Because building positive school culture means everyone is valued & appreciated. And if the custodians are happy, everyone is happy.

We are deeply saddened by the unexpected passing of Dr. Howard Jones. Our thoughts are with his family and the entire school community. A dedicated leader with 24 years of service to .Broward County Public Schools , Dr. Jones made a lasting impact on students, staff, and families.

Shocked and saddened... My heart goes out to Dr. Jones family. . . What an amazing man who lead with integrity and compassion .
