I think we are extremely close to a scenario where some parts of the UK end up seeing a genuinely severe (1980's esq) amount of snowfall here. There is very little signal to properly blast the cold air away, run after run, across models the cold air remains quite close to the

Blimey, tonight's EC 12z run going for a classic 1980s style channel low and major snow event for much of lowland, southern England on Thursday night and Friday morning... #OneToWatch 👀

GFS 06z follows yesterday’s ECM12z by forming a Scandinavian high into late Jan, perhaps a trend from a few days ago reappearing? Awaiting ensembles.

The shift towards colder solutions in the GEFS is evident. Fits with the generally colder theme I’ve been highlighting for late January for a while now. Momentum is certainly growing towards another cold spell.

Huge improvements on the GEFS 12z, looks mainly down to an increased confidence in the energy from the Atlantic heading south into France, opening the door to easterlies, rather than southeasterlies, for the UK this weekend

The ECM adds to the growing momentum for something much colder and snowier into early Feb. Our current pattern could easily flip to cold, just as easily as it could flip to mild like this week, watch this space 👀👀👀

ICON massively upgrades wind gusts for the Welsh coast on Saturday. I will be on an exposed peninsula in Pembrokeshire on holiday, looking forward to it! 🤣
