Speed kills. If car traffic on a street should be 35 mph, then engineer it for 35 mph. That means more obstacles and tighter corners are totally acceptable.

The US learned to produce automobiles at scale which enabled the middle class to afford cars. We are still building housing like it’s 1775; each a bespoke, handmade unit assembled on site. We have a desperate housing shortage and are overrun, literally, by cars the size of apts.

This is low-key one of my favorite designs I’ve seen for a bike lane in New York City, in Sunnyside. And what I like most about it is that it could be in every strip mall and office parking lot across America tomorrow.

Imagine working in Chicago, raising your family in Chicago, creating a plan to make Chicago better for everyone and then having someone from the suburbs tell you about your own city. This is Brandon Johnson vs Paul Vallas.

The biggest reason I like "Idaho stop" or "stop-as-yield" laws is for the precedent they set: bikes are not cars, and don't pose the same risk as cars. Therefore, traffic laws created for drivers shouldn't necessarily apply to cyclists.

A century of male dominated planning has resulted in streets shaped for one purpose: the commute to work. Only when cities start taking into account the many other “care trips” residents take in the day do they become more inclusive and gender equitable. issuu.com/islandpress/do…
