Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson vows to end ShotSpotter even though the police response time is much faster than 911 calls. Nearly 30,000 ShotSpotter alerts in the first eight months of 2024. Roughly 75% of those alerts had no corresponding 911 call. Of those 30,000 alerts, police

In the absence of a better tech, ShotSpotter should stay. Just to be clear, be prepared for an increase in homicides among primarily black & brown people as a result of them bleeding out. Police have arrived on scene in time to save lives. Not anymore. chicagotribune.com/2024/09/09/cit…

Commentary: In just a few weeks, Chicago’s contract with ShotSpotter will expire. The debate about ShotSpotter has focused on whether it helps solve crime. We have new data about shooting fatality rates that might be considered as well. trib.al/lbNGLOP

Petitions signed by constituents and a new ordinance introduced by a city council member are both trying to find ways to convince Mayor Brandon Johnson, or perhaps circumvent his decision to do away with ShotSpotter technology. abc7chicago.com/post/supporter…

Polling shows Chicagoans are broadly supportive of ShotSpotter, the controversial gunshot-detection system used by CPD that's shutting down later this month. 70% somewhat support ShotSpotter, 48% strongly support. Support is strongest among African Americans and older people.

Privacy Advocates for Individual Defense "During the first eight months of the year, ShotSpotter alerted police to 29,829 gunshot events in the wards where it is operating, 73 percent of which had no corresponding 911 call" You're assuming the 27% of the 28,829 that did not result in a 911 call are false alarms. Kudos to the Chicago Tribune for its hard-hitting and factual editorial in support of the #ShotSpotter technology. There are just too many potential lives to be saved by keeping it, and Chicago’s Mayor needs to wake up to that reality as he strives to make Chicago a safer city.

.Chicago Tribune Opinion cogently explains that independent analysis from UChicago Crime Lab establishes SoundThinking (formerly ShotSpotter) ShotSpotter technology is saving lives on the streets of Chicago. Many lives. The data don't lie. Which raises a couple questions ... chicagotribune.com/2024/09/14/edi…
