On the FINAL week of the Big #ButterflyCount, we've just surpassed 100,000 counts, that's more 1 MILLION butterflies recorded across the UK. Can you help us reach 125,000 before Sunday? Take part today πŸ‘‰ bigbutterflycount.org

Back out in the field today counting Marsh Fritillary larval webs in Dorset with Caroline Bulman. Positive counts as web numbers seem comparable, if not improved, on last years (and 2019 was a good year on the damp grassland sites).

When you go out with your fingers crossed for an Orange-tip and end up not only with an Orange-tip, but also Speckled Wood and an unexpected Dingy Skipper πŸ₯³.

Not butterfly weather today, so it was a joy to spot this fresh Marsh Fritillary out on a visit to one of the 'Dorset Duke' sites this morning. #butterflies #spring

I made the really difficult decision not to attend #EAB2021 this week. I was so looking forward to presenting some exciting results as part of my postdoc with Butterfly Conservation πŸ¦‹. I'll be joining online though and hopefully sharing my work soon!

Positive launch of a really important farmer cluster for Dorset. It was good to be able to give a whistle-stop tour through the ecology of some of Dorset's priority butterfly species.

Great to chat all things Marsh Fritillary for this book, along with Caroline Bulman. Expecting an entertaining insight into the 10 species, look forward to reading it!

Want to understand how habitat management on individual patches affects landscape distribution of the Lulworth Skipper butterfly? You can find out in the first paper from my PhD onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/oi…

Before and after. Great to see results of winter management at a local Duke of Burgundy site as part of Hilfield Friary led cluster group project. Scalloped scrub edges, perching points, scattered scrub and shelter retained, but grassland opened up and connectivity improved.
