Finally made it home, reflections on flight 9. Ship made it to SECO, Booster had a good showing for first reflight (although was lost unexpectedly shortly after landing burn start). I’m optimistic based on what we are seeing in data that turnaround time to flight 10 will be

Periods of minor to moderate geomagnetic storms possible starting tonight over the next few days as Earth begins to connect with a large equatorial coronal hole. Aurora could be pushed farther south than normally seen due to this storming.

Here is the official NOAA SWPC prediction of tomorrow's potentially SEVERE geomagnetic storm which could drive aurora down to mid-low latitudes. NOAA SWPC is forecasting impact in-line with NASA at around midday on Sunday June 1 13 UT +/- 7 hours.

So tonight looks to be the night for aurora as a strong CME arrival has been detected—storm levels should increase to moderate or strong (Kp=6/7) almost immediately over the next hour with possibly stronger conditions to occur overnight.

Good confidence this storm is subsiding and conditions won’t be as ripe for geomagnetic storm development tonight, with magnetic field (black) and velocity (purple) decreasing and generally magnetic field orientation pointed north. Still, there is a chance that our magnetic field

Northern lights in the lower 48s are always hard to predict. I went to bed and let my camera run all night powered off of a large portable battery and snagged a few pics! Apparently this only lasted about 5-10 minutes here in Colorado

This is sad. Well known storm chasing page with 400k+ followers posting Kp view-line maps in advance of the activity this weekend claiming different values of Kp bring different levels of aurora to different parts of Michigan. This kind of thinking will cause people to MISS

Important distinction when comparing space stations is the research capability. Space stations are useless without meaningful scientific or production utility. The ISS possesses multi-phase combustion facilities. Metal morphology, atmospheric, fluid, and botanical labs.

Chris Combs (iterative design enjoyer) Spent the last few months assembling a pretty extensive plan—shaped by insights from a lot of smart, passionate people. No shortage of input—everyone loves NASA and wants to help. Maybe I will write an op-ed someday—but I didn’t love being inundated with plans from people who

Nose cone absolutely ripped open. Header tank seems to be main culprit at the moment based on various replays and angles. Lots to speculate. Feeling for all those pouring their blood, sweat, & tears into Starship right now.

Here are the COPVs in question. There are 6 dark cylinders, 3 on each side of the header tank transfer tubes. This is right at the base of the nose cone where the initial puff appears.

It appears we're in the declining phase of the solar cycle. Solar activity has really dropped off, as you can see. June's numbers should rebound a bit following a very low May. In the meantime, pop your space wx questions in the comments below and I'll respond to a few 👀
