Sunday thoughts: should startups be valued on gross/contribution margin instead of revenue?

There’s definitely AI not a trend right now AI to getting social media AI likes and investor eyeballs AI in VC Twitter AI. If only there AI were some mechanism AI to hack the AI system. Surely not… .. . AI… 👀

Interesting comment I just read for founders fundraising: 😇 Angels invest at the earliest stages (read: when you have no traction) 💸 Angel groups / syndicates can be thought of more as micro-VCs (read: usually require early traction similar to most VCs) Thoughts?

Question: are all companies B2C? Even if you’re “B2B, B2G, etc”, you’re still selling to an individual…experiencing a problem…with their own decision rights on whether or not to buy a solution. Should more “non B2C” companies employ more B2C sales tactics and styles?

Question for the crowd: should you start a software company without the ability to code on your founding team? Honest question, curious on responses!

Seeing a lot of “passive income” tweets. Rule #1 most of those folks forget: passive revenue <> passive income. Passive revenue could mean passive loss. Words matter.

First question: What are the industries where access to information is a “leg up” on your competition? Second question: thematically, is that a feature or a bug?

Have any angel syndicate leads evaluated the “Nominee / Trust” structure as an alternative to the SPV structure, example (and European provider) here: help.joinodin.com/en/articles/62… Curious if anyone has walked down this path, any US providers, thoughts?

Question for “middle of the country” PreSeed-Seed investors: IF you believe that there’s not enough capital for good founders… AND IF most investors syndicate / don’t take full rounds… …Is there a need for “sharp elbows” / downside to sharing dealflow?

Contribution margin >>>> revenue. Software, hardware, service, product. As an investor. As a founder.

(Excluding deep tech / med device / biotech) Should professional dilutive funding be available at the idea stage? If not, what should fill the gap? Does it drive the right incentives and risk/reward? Curious on responses 🤔
