BREAKING: Residents disrupt Phil Mendelson legislative media briefing to urge him to fund housing voucher in the FY2025 #DCBudget.

Two of these D.C. residents interrupted Phil Mendelson's press briefing this morning. They're demanding a tax increase on wealthy D.C. residents to fund housing vouchers. NOTE: 3,200 people (all families) stand to lose their rapid rehousing over the next few months.

Mendelson said today he's "trying" to add more housing vouchers to the budget but didn't sound overly optimistic. I spoke with one of the protesters, Charlottie Simpson. She's a 58-year D.C. resident and a veteran of the civil rights movement. Here's why she chose to speak out:
