Our last day in Lagos was a quiet one. Walked a few kms to a beach that was relatively secluded. For the first time since my childhood I spent an hour looking up at the clouds. Finished the day with a meal (and sangria!) on the beach. Today we depart for Salema. 🇵🇹😎

The Fisherman’s Trail, part of the Rita Vicentina, is a 226 km walk along the southern coast of Portugal. Yesterday we completed a small portion, finishing in Selema. The elevation is far greater than my experience with other coastal walks. We certainly earned our 🍻! 🇵🇹😎

Today we walked the Salema to Luz segment of the Fisherman’s Trail. It’s much more secluded than the Camino Portuguese up North, with more distance between towns. Finishing our day poolside, nursing sore feet and scratches from the prickly scrub lining the trails. Tough life 😎🇵🇹

Stayed in Sintra for 2 days to visit the National Palace of Pena, a UNESCO site. The palace and grounds were stunning. We had a full itinerary planned, but a random encounter with a brew house got us to slow down & change gears. We wandered the streets & enjoyed the food & shops.

We’re spending a few days in Lisbon. Beautiful city, steeped in culture (and food and wine). We’re not following any itinerary, but just going when our intuition takes us. 😎🇵🇹

Yesterday we explored Lisbon. We started at a local flea market, a mix of artisans selling their creations & others selling junk. Made for fascinating people watching. We walked through the public gardens and finished our day watching the sun set from a rooftop bar. Lovely. 🇵🇹😎

Celebrated Father’s Day with family brunch then headed over to hang out with neighbours in Hintonburg at the local block party. Terrific artists, worthy cause, great brews and even better company. Big thanks to ⁦@shocktheshanker⁩ for organizing.

Visiting Lake Placid region this week to celebrate our 30th anniversary…and to hike some mountains! Yesterday we hiked up Cascade Mountain, one of the 46 that are over 4000 feet. Clear skies and stunning views!

Absolutely massive hike today to the top of Algonquin Peak, the 2nd highest mountain in the Adirondacks. Long (nearly 20 kms) and steep (1100m of elevation), it was also quite technical. Lots of scrambling and climbing. We’re exhausted but feeling accomplished.

Woke up this morning feeling pretty sore after yesterday’s epic hike. We decided to hike a smaller mountain…Rooster Comb. It had solid elevation (over 500m) and terrific views at the top. Finished the day sharing a bottle of wine and taking in the beautiful views of Lake Placid.

Departing YOW shortly. Spending a few days in Prague to explore my mother’s birthplace. Then to Chamonix to begin the Tour du Mont Blanc, a 170 km hike with packs around the great mountain. We’ll be staying and eating in huts on the mountain. I’ll post pics when possible 🥾

Arrived in Prague yesterday. After hotel check in we visited the Charles bridge and searched for the house where my mother/grandparents lived until the war. Fortunately there was only one “house with the bear insignia.” Then off to sample local beer & food. Memories of childhood.

The past 2 days in Prague have been a whirlwind. Visited the castle, old and new towns the John Lennon wall, the astronomical clock and took a food/cocktail tour. It’s absolutely beautiful here.

Arrived in Chamonix on Friday. Yesterday we completed a relatively short hike (500 m elevation) to work out the cobwebs and acclimatize to the elevation here. This morning we begin stage 1 of the Tour du Mont Blanc. 🥾

Just completed stage 1 of the TMB. Over 20 kms and 1100m of elevation. Stopped for lunch at an auberge in Bionnassay. Probably should have skipped the 🍷, but when in France 🤷‍♂️. Staying in Les Contamines tonight. Early start tomorrow. 😴 🥾
