Imagination: Cure or Cancer by Gerard Puccio 1 Children are lightness and light Watch how they bounce, gambol, and dance…even when walking

2 Like little stars they glow in a dark universe Specks of brilliance that under the right conditions give life

3 No matter the culture on this planet Children of all shades of humanity play

4 Innate imagination gifted from ancestral generations must exercise Like the pouncing kitten, play unfolds unconsciously uncontrollably

5 Weight is added year on year, both of the body and of the mind With aging exercise becomes more difficult

6 Judgment joins imagination living, initially, side-by-side Hopes for symbiosis dashed through society’s concentrated doses of evaluation

7 Imagination now bears the burden of judgment on its back Once healthy now becomes a disease of the mind slowly killing the spirit

8 Eventually little light escapes from the gravity of the adult Forced to exist in darkness, imagination must live by feeding on itself

9 Imagination corrupted becomes a cancer of the mind A contagion that inspires such maladies as doubt, fear, anxiety

10 Unchecked this disease is terminal, slowly crushing the spirit Obesity of the mind, like the body, atrophies life-giving action

11 Fortify yourself against communicable aspects of the disease Prevent other diseased spirits from infecting you

12 Do not allow judgment to burden imagination, rather let it be a sparing partner There to strengthen, not to bludgeon

13 Shed judgment, dispense the sandbags filled by guilt and shame Allow your creative spirit to rise unencumbered

14 Like a child become a shining star for others Let your light filter through into their deepest recesses, into dark corners of the mind

15 Let your illumination light the way for others Experience the joy of giving life, to yourself and to others - G J Puccio Creativity Prof
