Winter Storm Fern updates from Newberry Utilities

Is your home #WinterReady? Heat your home safely. Keep anything that can burn 3 feet away from a fireplace, wood stove or space heater.

We encourage our customers to stay safe as temperatures continue to drop. Remember to drip the cold water on the furthest faucet from your shutoff valve unless you have a tankless water heater. If so, drip both the hot and cold faucets.

Winter weather is expected to impact the area this weekend and Newberry Utilities is ready to respond. Report power outages or downed utility lines to us by calling 803-276-0311. Our crews will work as quickly and safely as possible to restore any outages to the system.

Staying home and not traveling unless necessary keeps our crews and utility equipment (utility poles, transformers, etc.) safe during winter storms. Our crews are on standby to keep our community safe! ❄❄ Thank you for doing your part!

Newberry Utilities electric crew replacing a failed transformer this afternoon.  Yesterday, our water crews repaired main breaks on Boundary, Preston, and Drayton Streets. Remember to drip faucets to prevent frozen & bursting water pipes. It costs less than a nickel per night.

As part of the Scott's Creek sewer project, Drayton St will be closed for approximately 6 weeks starting February 11. Detours are to be used during this timeframe. Signage will be placed on Drayton St approaching the road closure from both directions. We appreciate your patience!

(1/3) So what can you do about higher utility usage during cold weather? For optimum efficiency, adjust your thermostat to 68 degrees. For every degree you lower it in the winter, you can save around 5% on heating costs. For every degree higher, you pay approximately 5% more.

(2/3) Take advantage of heat from the sun. Open your blinds, and let the natural sunlight work in your favor to heat your home.

(3/3) Plug energy leaks with weather stripping and caulking, and be sure your home is properly insulted. This could help you save on heating/cooling costs and make your home more comfortable.
