This looks like modern scrap but it's actually an Iron Age tyre from a chariot! It was found on the margins of Llyn Cerrig Bach during construction of RAF Station Valley in 1942-43. Animal bones & other metal objects were also found. tinyurl.com/n36vnnd5 #FindsFriday #IronAge

I'm having a whale of a time looking through Amgueddfa Cymru | Museum Wales digital library so I have another incredible find to share! The fantastic Langstone Tankard dates to the Iron Age (over 2000 y.o.) & was found with 2 vessels and a wine strainer. #FindsFriday tinyurl.com/nr8teuad

A female mummy with a man's head. #FindsFriday. "The Cladh Hallan skeletons represent the first identification of mummies in the British #BronzeAge, an unexpected treatment of the dead that research has later identified elsewhere in Britain." More here: ow.ly/W4BB50FXXEE

Check out this guy - this goat head carving by artist Eddie Robb adorns gateposts at #AdGefrin, an #AngloSaxon royal township situated between #Kirknewton and #Yeavering in #Northumberland. I snapped him on #research travels in 2013 #FindsFriday #writer #histfic #medievaltwitter

Its #FindsFriday! I'm currently going through a few batches of #Roman coins that I have in. This is my favourite so far, an incomplete silver denarius of Plautilla the wife of Caracalla, the coin dates from AD 202 - 205. From Rutland. LEIC-B89BDD ⬇️⬇️⬇️ finds.org.uk/database/artef…

Definitely a #FindsFriday favourite for me - A gold ring with a skull on the bezel, encircled with the words ‘respice finem’ - ‘think to the end’. The colourful enamelling has survived in some places. From Suffolk. (Portable Antiquities & Treasure SF-9977A7) #mementomori #skull #ring

For #FindsFriday another #IceAge masterpiece from the Swabian Jura: a mammoth carved in mammoth ivory some 40,000 years ago. Parts of the head and legs are missing. Perforations between its forelegs and hind legs indicate that it was used as a pendant. The carefully carved...1/2

A #FindsFriday beauty from neighbouring #Shropshire! This rare Early Medieval brooch shows a bird holding a branch within an enamelled (champlevé) field. It joins a group of at least 7 known examples, and is 1 of 3 to be ID'ed through Portable Antiquities & Treasure Record: finds.org.uk/database/artef…
