On October 29, 1963, Viet Cong soldiers captured U.S. Army Special Forces Lt. James “Nick” Rowe. Over the next five years, he endured horrific treatment until he could escape and be rescued. Rowe is laid to rest in Section 48. We honor his service. #FormerPOWRecognitionDay

Amazing to finally see the remains of the mighty USS Cairo at Vicksburg, Mississippi. The City-Class ironclad was sent to the bottom by a Confederate torpedo on the Yazoo River in December 1862, and raised in the 1960s. There were plenty Irishmen among her crew. #IrishDiaspora

#OTD in #History, 1912, #Titanic set sail from England for #NYC. 4 days into its maiden voyage, it struck an iceberg and sank. Since 100 Americans died, #Congress opened an investigation. Reforms were also enacted, including a mandate that ships have lifeboats for each passenger.

John Hancock’s bold signature on the Declaration might suggest his radicalism, but, in truth, Hancock positioned himself as a moderate American Revolutionary. In King Hancock, Brooke Barbier describes Hancock as a man who “craved people’s affection.” 📚: bit.ly/3Ubcnf6

Super excited to share a preview of one of the key arguments of my forthcoming book, *Making the Presidency*. Thanks so much to Mount Vernon for giving me space to talk about democracy - it’s more important than ever.
