1/Excited to share the news that my book, Pandemic of Punishment, will be published by Beacon Press. It tells stories of the people living and dying in American jails and prisons during the COVID-19 crisis.

2/This book imagines the end of mass incarceration and proposes ways in which America must transform its penal system, with a focus on the organizing efforts, demands, and leadership of incarcerated people and their families.

3/The book will amplify their voices, pushing forward the emerging social movement to end mass incarceration. I am grateful to every person who has shared their story with me, and to my colleagues UCLA Law Behind Bars Data Project, who have taught me so much.

After complaining for two years that it's the "pandemic of the unvaccinated," the President did maybe the single worst thing anyone could do to lower vaccination rates: prematurely declare the pandemic is over.

“No one is wearing masks”? Hello, it’s me—I’m “no one” and I wear masks 👀

Now that Biden declared pandemic “over” this gives carte blanche to all employers + corporations not to do any mitigations or offer remote working/study options to anyone. Because “pandemic is over”. I can’t begin to say how ill-timed this is + how much suffering it will bring.

Just to clarify, the pandemic is not over.
