I've done a fair amount of research on the economics of single motherhood, & it's the subject of my forthcoming book with Matthew McKeever. The basic story is that divorced women & never-married mothers are very different populations. Here's a primer. psmag.com/economics/chan…

There's more income inequality within the population of single mother families than for married parents. Although inequality has grown for all, the disparity based on marital status has shrunk a bit. NB Matthew McKeever 1/4

Nicely laid out Pam. But is his account really so different from more tame and polite cultural explanations of poverty? With careful scrutiny, the only difference I see is Mead is more direct & transparent.

Paper by my former student, Ronen S, examines sex toy producers. Instead of privileging male sexual agency, they see men as lascivious, and women users of sex toys the more respectable (and profitable) market. That's my words, read it in hers! journals.sagepub.com/eprint/8RKE9JU…

This is hilarious. P-hacking is pervasive in Econ. Look at that distorted hump of z-statistics just above 2! Yet, IV folks get to tell us how they have a “credible” research design and have identified a causal effect. Yeah, right...

Good Monday morning. This data viz article was published Friday. I put a LOT of (19!) additional figures in the supplemental material - available at (journals.sagepub.com/doi/suppl/10.1…). This one shows class origin, education, and destination. Use it in your classes if you like.

Compelling new visualizations of the rigidity of occupational class mobility from Daniel Laurison, Dr. Dawn M Dow and @CarolynChernoff, using 2015 PSID data. They found stark racial differences in mobility between parent and respondent occupation. paper: bit.ly/33UeBp6

Update: Leads in PA and GA continue to decrease. The linear trend is consistent with a difference between votes counted last night and the mail-in votes being counted now. Note that the expected total vote is an estimate. If this changes, the entire plot shifts to right or left.

1. Short thread -- Three weeks ago, I filed open records requests to 18 Republican Attorney Generals who supported Texas' false claims to the US Supreme Court of rigged elections in PA, MI, GA, and WI. First batch in:

To be clear, Senator Mastriano and *every PA Republican Senator* voted for Act 77 Vote by Mail. Unanimous. In fact, it was 💯 a PAGOP bill. 👉 Dems wanted to push it back to 2021. PAGOP forced it for 2020. You can’t make this up. local21news.com/news/local/mas…

The goal and whole point is to give more $ to poor kids. **ALL** that matters is how much $ poor kids get. So, whichever proposal results in more $ to poor kids is the best criterion for evaluating various proposals.

I actually would endorse sociology journals having a policy that you cannot call it and cite Blinder-Oaxaca without a citation to Kitagawa. I also admit I give extra points to papers who cite Kitagawa *without* bothering to cite Blinder-Oaxaca.
