A new pupil joined my wind ensemble at school today. He was welcomed by everyone, many of whom he’d never spoken to before. He also sat, laughed, learned, and instantly connected with people he’d never spoken to before. Music ensembles are incredible learning environments.

Every week I go to rehearsal with the weight of the world on my shoulders, and every week I go home from rehearsal feeling as light as a feather, momentarily cleansed of life’s troubles. The importance of music to health and well-being cannot be overstated. How wonderful it is.
