Poignant ending to

In a pivotal election year it would serve us well to remember what the great Sivanandan said:

'What Powell says today, the Conservatives say tomorrow, and Labour legislates on the day after'

One of my favourite acts of support for the came from Black Women for Wages for Housework in the USA, who picketed the British Consulate in Los Angeles.

The international solidarity at the time was spectacular.

I genuinely wonder why these officers agree to participate in a documentary like .

Surely they must know this is not the audience that will be convinced this was not racially motivated?!

That wrinkly old raisin police officer wants to listen to anything BUT the facts. Terrifying to know that people with such insane bias were in the police force and as we see regularly, are in the police force today

That line choked me up. I heard it in my grandma's voice and realised just how much Blair Peach had come to mean to everyone in Southall.

Utterly heartbreaking House fire that killed Parveen and her 3 children murdered by racist killers - I was a child then I used to lie awake at night doing mental fire drills how I’d get my family out -this was real. Rogan Productions Channel 4 Rajesh Thind Riz Ahmed

Thread - final episode of brilliant series on Channel 4 is very moving, upsetting & powerful.
It focuses firstly on the horrific murder in Walthamstow in 1981, of Mrs Parveen Khan & her 3 children, killed by persons unknown. Firefighters were sure this was arson &

I used to live around the corner from Hambrough Tavern in . I had no idea what had happened there.

A week after the uprising (not riot), there were clashes between police and Southallians again - they had increased patrols and there was an officer every 45m.

Thank goodness for breaks...

The horrific arson in Walthamstow is just a line in The Shoulders We Stand On, such were the number of horrific acts taking place in the late 70s and early 80s. At least 31 Black and Brown people were murdered 1976-1981.

A more comprehensive 'additional context' thread (or threads) to come tomorrow for watchers, including more info on the Special Patrol Group, immigration fact and fiction, and horrific racist acts like bussing and virginity testing which were going on at the same time.

Info for ep 2 : police mostly charged the 342 people from Southall with offences that would require a magistrate's court to avoid trials by jury. They knew they would lose their cases. & they 'bound over' witnesses i.e. you went as a witness and were implicated yourself.
