#FromDawntoDecadence is one of those #history #books which has something for everyone and serves as a singly comprehensive resource for the post enlightenment period in Europe. #JacquesBarzun covers the whole 9 yards and then some more featuring Goethe, Rosseau, Bach, Gogh etc.

#DilipKumar, for many was the best #Indiancinema had to offer. A rough contemporary of Brando, Dilip Kumar married mainstream to the method. Desai contests how Kumar represented Nehru's India. Cinema is the downstream of culture and Desai shows how that applied to Nehru's India

I find myself coming back to #Nehru's writings on India. The man exhibited an uncanny ability to take in the wonder that is India and write prolifically about it. Dr Purushottam Agrawal has a brilliant essay in the introduction of this book. I'd pick it up just for that if nothing else

People's Constitution by Rohit is a wonderful #read. Original in scope and lucid in prose, this book investigates how pervasive constitutionalism was during the early days of the Indian Republic. The butcher and prostitution cases were my fav. Highly recommend #bookX

pca.st/podcast/49eef1… The Crossover I didn't expect Amit Varma and कुशल मेहरा are two of my fav podcasters. I always wondered how a conversation between the two would go given obvious differences in visions. Perfectly civil and enlightening is how !!

Thomas Cathcart and Daniel Klein are 2 of the funniest and lucid #philosophers you can read. Their runaway success book #PlatoandPlatypusWalkIntoABar is one of 3 #books which seek to explain philosophy with jokes. These are the other two dealing with logic and death. Great #reads

What a fantastic book #EconomicFactsandFallacies by #ThomasSowell is one of those rare books where every page gives you some #TIL moments. His ideas around #rentcontrol #publicschools #genderdisparities are as pioneering as they are iconic. Forces you to pry the unseen effects

Man to have a brother like Theo ❤️. This is probably the best book I've read this year. #Lustforlife is just a delicate, brilliant and engrossing read. Irving Stone is the master of biographical novels and this is one of his best works. Must read this one #vangogh #bookstoread

#IrvingStone is SUCH a masterful writer. Picked up his #Lustforlife and #TheAgonyandEcstacy and loved both of them. The blazing brilliance of #Michelangelo, the grieving genius of #VanGogh and ofcourse the tenderness of Theo Van Gogh. Stone is the master of his craft #arthistory

#Seeinglikeastate is such a brilliant read. This one is for the keeps. James Scott basically makes a case against Adam Smith's Man of Systems and central planning fanatics. Read this along with Mars Ridley's Evolution of Everything and Jane Jacobs Life and Death of American City

Saturday spent absorbing the wisdom of the ancients. Ami Ganatra (અમી ગણાત્રા)'s passion for the epics is infectious and her ideas make one revisit their priors. Loved her answer on reading the epics as sources of Itihasas vs as sources of literature. Hope to hear you again Ma'am, this time at UT!
