You may agree or disagree with it. But it’s now clear that on its own terms, the strategy of flattening the curve to protect NHS capacity has worked. The collapse in health provision we saw in parts of Italy - and that many predicted would happen here - has not been repeated.

There was a point when we were all very worried about if the NHS would cope. It didn't look great, but it has done so well. Everyone's actions have meant that our doctors, nurses and support staff have not been overwhelmed. A fantastic effort.

This is some good news. As testing increases, we're not seeing the rate of positives go up. SA still in far better place than US or UK. Number of COVID-19 tests per confirmed case, Mar 24, 2020 to Apr 22, 2020 ourworldindata.org/grapher/number…

Some bit of good news: Critical care beds used for Covid-19 in UK and number of hospitalised patients in London steadily decreasing since more than a week now.

UK-wide Covid-19 patients in hospital now below 10,000 from peak of over 20,000: lowest number 28 March. Hospital admissions (England only) down from 3,127 to 678: lowest level since 20 March. Still more to do but good to see progress being made.

Great news. The Government will start publishing our daily recovery figures. I've been pushing for this for a while. It will give a desperately needed morale boost and show people that the vast majority recover. We need some balance - rolling out these stats soon will help.
