🇵🇱 81 years ago, the Poles defeated the Germans at the Battle of Monte Cassino - one of the largest, toughest and bloodiest land battles in Europe during the WWII. Today, we pay tribute to all the Polish soldiers who, in those days, fought for the freedom and dignity of Europe.

#OTD, 1919, 🇵🇱 writer, journalist, essayist, WWII underground fighter, prisoner of the Gulag, Gustaw Herling-Grudziński was born. Throughout the period of communism, he remained in exile as a political emigrant, and his works in the country was banned and subject to censorship.

🇵🇱 Today is the anniversary of the birth of Cyprian Kamil Norwid, poet, painter, sculptor, patriot and one of the most important Poland's poets of the Romantic era. Today, his heritage is one of the quintessences of Polish literature.

Witold Pilecki's burial place was never disclosed by the communist authorities. His remains have not been found to this day.

🇵🇱 Corpus Christi is a special day, which we have been celebrating in Poland since the 13th century. With pride, but also with humility, we march through the streets of our small local homelands - towns and villages. 🌼💮🌸

On the night of June 20-21, 1940, Kusociński with 357 other prisoners was transported from the Pawiak prison to Palmiry. All of them, including a prominent athlete and great patriot, were shot by the Germans in the nearby woods. Despite inhuman torture, he did not betray anyone.

🇵🇱 On June 28, 1956, took place the first of several massive protests against the communist government of the Polish People's Republic. 🕯️ Demonstrations by workers demanding better working conditions were met with violent repression. We remember.

🇵🇱 On July 4, 1610, took place the Battle of Kłuszyn, between Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and the Tsardom of Russia. The battle is remembered as one of the greatest triumphs of the Polish cavalry and an example of excellence and supremacy of the Polish military at the time.

On July 4, 1943, Supreme Commander of the Polish Armed Forces and PM of the Polish Government-in-Exile, Gen Sikorski, died in a plane crash in Gibraltar. Sikorski had been the most prestigious leader of the Polish exiles, and his death was a severe setback for the Polish cause.
