Krzysztof Kamil Baczyński was one of the most promising young voices in Polish poetry. During WW2, he joined the anti-German resistance, wrote for the underground press, and took part in covert operations. He fought in the #WarsawUprising and was killed in action #OTD in 1944.

Rutka Laskier was a Jewish teenager whose diary, like Anne Frank’s, described the Holocaust from a young girl’s perspective. She was forced into the Będzin Ghetto by the Germans and later deported to the KL Auschwitz, where she was murdered most likely #OTD in 1943.

In WW2, poet Maria Morawska worked for the Home Army intelligence in German-occupied Poland. In the #WarsawUprising, Sgt. Morawska served as a messenger for the "Radosław" Group. She was fatally wounded by German artillery on 6 August 1944, two weeks before her 22nd birthday.

Tadeusz Terlikowski was a Polish pilot who fought against the 1939 German-Soviet invasion of Poland, then in the Battle of France and the Battle of Britain with 303 Squadron. He passed away #OTD in 2018, one of the last surviving veteran pilots of the Second Polish Republic.
