We forget the reason why settlements on the edge of the Wolds like Pocklington have 10,000 years of occupation. When ice sheets melted following the Ice Age, the sea levels rose. York was under water as part of lake Humber and Pocklington & Market Weighton were on the lake edge.

The Mile flood scheme uncovered more ancient burials. It showed a range of two Iron Age, two Bronze Age and one mid-Neolithic, the first Neolithic skeleton to be found in the town, and giving the group an age range of 2,000 to 5,000 years old. Photo: a burial excavated in 2018.

'New' ancient remains found at Pock. Building work on the Garths End side of Pocklington Junior School earlier this month turned up human remains; The bones are clearly ancient and were removed for further analysis, with initial thoughts that they may be from the Iron Age.
