Keep kids and pets clear of space heaters.

A ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) can help prevent electrocution. If a person’s body starts to receive a shock, the GFCI senses this and cuts off the power before he/she can get injured.

Whether at home or at work, if you’re in a loud space for an extended period of time, you could be exposing yourself to noise-induced hearing loss. Grab a pair of earmuffs or plugs and put them on. You will thank yourself in the long run.

Only use extension cords on a temporary basis. If you find yourself needing extension cords often or for an extended period of time, call a qualified electrician to learn if you may need to add additional wiring and outlets to your home.

Dim or flickering lights, a burning smell, discolored electrical outlet or switch or frayed wires are all signs of electrical problems. Call a qualified electrician to inspect your home for electrical damage. Some wiring or outlets may need replaced.

When was the last time your home had an electrical inspection? If it was more than 10 years ago, or if you’ve noticed warning signs of an electrical problem, it’s a good idea to get ahold of a qualified electrician. Electrical inspections can help mitigate larger problems.
