Two errors constantly seek to corrupt the message and steal away from us the power of the gospel. Moralism says that we have to live a holy, good life in order to be saved. Relativism/Fake Christianity says that because we are saved we don’t have to live a holy, good life.

In large churches, people let you pastor b/c of your preaching. In small churches, people let you preach b/c of your pastoring generally.

Success and suffering will either darken your heart or make you wise, but they won't leave you where you were. It depends on how you respond to them.

Planting new churches is (1) an irreplaceable way to bring unchurched people to faith, (2) an irreplaceable way to renew existing churches, (3) a crucial way to develop new Christian leaders in a city, (4) the best way to reach new generations, new immigrants, new people groups.

The longer I’m alive, the more I believe that the mark of a true Christian isn’t Correct Theology™️ (as ideal as it is) but a heart-longing after Jesus, a humility that reflects Jesus, and an ability to discourse in love instead of being abrasive and condescending.

Only half of the pastor’s work is to gather the people together for worship. The other half is to send them back to their daily tasks equipped to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world. If we forget this second part, the other can be positively dangerous.

Maybe you’re one of the many who hesitate to launch into new dreams and ambitions because you’ve been down that path before and it didn’t go well. No wonder! It’s hard to imagine intentionally putting ourselves into harm’s way on purpose. But, what if you gave it another shot.
