Stuff like this worries me. Selling carbon credits for changing ag practices is deeply problematic given huge uncertainties in how much will actually be removed. The fact the article highlights no-till which does not actually remove carbon is a bad sign. nytimes.com/2022/07/09/bus…

We often talk about climate change in terms of global averages, e.g. the world has warmed 1.2C since preindustrial. But no one lives in the global average; land areas have already warmed more than 1.8C on average, and many high latitude regions have already warmed more than 2C:

Snigdha Sinha with @winclimate details how people would save money. On Long Island, a new one family home would save about $200 yearly on geothermal vrs gas and about $100 yearly with an air-source heat pump (pictured) vrs gas. Propane is especially an expensive waste.

8 days ago, over half a million gallons of crude oil started leaking from the Keystone pipeline. This is bigger than the last 22 Keystone pipeline spills combined and the largest onshore spill in the U.S. in over ten years. TC Energy must be held accountable for this disaster.

BP just announced that it will join Shell in slowing its transition to clean energy. The company plans to use record profits from 2022 to invest an additional $8 billion in fossil fuels. BP also plans to aim for 20% carbon reductions by 2030 vs. its original 40% target.

NEW: New York’s buildings are the state’s largest source of carbon pollution. What’s the solution? To power heating, cooling, and appliances with clean electricity rather than fossil fuels. More in our new memo on the All-Electric Buildings Act: drive.google.com/file/d/16Is5pz…

On climate change, we often assume people are either believers or deniers. I don't like either label, because climate change is not a religion. Instead, I prefer the 6 categories identified by Yale Program on Climate Change Communication for the US. climatecommunication.yale.edu/about/projects…

This isn’t a 10% increase. Not a 100% increase. But a 1,000% increase in biking thanks to protected bike lanes. If you build the bike lanes, the bikes will come. And the cars will leave. Traffic goes down, sustainability and safety goes up, everybody wins!

West Maui has power but internet is harder to restore. People who need support/food/services are being asked to go online but can't get online. Starlink and @Elonmusk can you send some units to the island? We have a fire captain who can pick up and deliver to West Maui.

US politicians are extremely out of touch with talent in tech. There is a belief that if you cap immigration, jobs stay. The opposite happens. Jobs go elsewhere, tax dollars are lost, local economies suffer, and when that talent builds the next Google or Apple, it won’t be here.
