In 1880, Prof. G. H. Kelly organized a small group of Phoenicians into the town's first band. Settled just ten years earlier, the entire population of Phoenix was only 2,453. The majority of the new band members were non-musicians. The Pioneer Band would last over fifty years.

Sheet music of around 1900 often had eye catching covers! These are from piano versions of some of the band music we are looking at playing.

Arizona Admission Day Parade, 2/14/1912. This is probably the #PioneerBand, who led the "second division" of the parade, leading of the Fire Brigade and organized labor groups. Parades were held for any reason they could think of in those days. We need more #parades! #Phxhistory

Here is a clip of the first piece played by the PPB, recorded 10/16/21 and practiced only three times. While just a cell phone recording, pretty good sounding for 8 players who have been playing together for only 30 mins! Still recruiting, join today phxpioneerband.org

This beautiful 1926 Martin E-flat alto horn desperately needs someone to be playing it! An instrument without a player is a tragedy. Join us! #vintageband #altohorn #classicbrass

Nobody is playing this 1917 KING ARTIST MODEL EUPHONIUM! It's a crying shame because it sounds pretty great. Did you play baritone in High School? Or another brass instrument? Would you like to learn? Join us, THE KING NEEDS YOU! #euphonium #baritone #brassplayer #vintagebrass

Our acquisition of annoying percussion instruments continues! No self respecting band can play a vintage march without a pair of these bronze babies. Offerup delivers again at 1/3 the price of new cymbals. #brassband #cymbalcrash
