A sad day. Tim Brighouse was a beacon of hope. His vision inspired so many. What a massive contribution he made.

Just read of the sad loss of Sir Tim Brighouse. This list has been on the wall of my class then Office for ever and was and is the most important list I’ve ever had. It’s constantly reminded me that teaching is more than what happens in lessons and that it’s about being human.

Today on the Leasehold Bill Committee. The Residential Freehold Association, who represent the big landlords, tried to persuade us that Ground Rents were justified & pension funds would suffer if they were abolished. Sorry. Not buying it!

To be effective, the response must be interdisciplinary, cross-cutting and be resourced. What an opportunity for a new govt to make a positive difference. This situation has affected too many for far too long.

Hopefully, as we gradually find greater balance in social policy, this kind of uninformed nonsense will end up in Room101. Along with a raft of dog-whistle education policies which have preoccupied all 143 Education Secretaries over the last 14 years…
