The most amazing person I have had the privilege to know! Made massive impact on chemistry and the lives of so many!

Very sorry to learn that Franz Schmidtchen passed away in 2022. Franz was one of the pioneers of anion receptor chemistry and was a colleague who always pushed our community to be rigorous. He’ll be remembered for his work on guanidinium-based anion receptors and ITC.

We are renaming our PhD thesis prize in memory of Prof. John Fossey who sadly passed away recently. John was instrumental in the career development of many ECRs. It is also fitting that the first award lecture under the new name is being given at his institution of Birmingham.
