The requirement that open street events pay for a bunch of overtime police should be reevaluated. The city should want events that enliven Philly, but overtime police imposes a significant cost on the neighborhood orgs that organize events.

For opposing the Rijksmuseum’s plan to close this public passage in 2003, the Amsterdam Cyclists’ Union were called “bike terrorists” and “fundamentalists who let their own minor interests prevail over all forms of reasonableness.” We think they are on the right side of history.

After the success of Open Streets on Walnut the Italian Market should give it a try. Copy their approach: make the Italian Market car free on Sundays in some warm weather month with just a few fun small fun things for kids and a musician or two. I bet it'd work great!

A haphazard visualization of a way to return Fairmount Park's eastern riverbank to a beloved park. In short: make Kelly Drive 1 direction each way, add parking along the edge, create a dedicated bike trail, add frequent pedestrian crossings, and tame intersections.

In 2020, 40% of motor traffic in Vilnius' city center was passing through with no intention of stopping—up to 70% on specific streets during the morning peak. In order to keep the social and economic heart of the city pumping, the city introduced a new traffic circulation plan.🧵

Sometimes Philadelphia Department of Streets gets it right. When NW Philly's W. Mt. Airy Ave. was recently repaved, the existing speed humps were made permanent. The new asphalt speed humps are also much more bike-friendly!

Sorry but I can't get past Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia advocating against trolleys on a street that is already completely unbikeable. We need modern infrastructure that allows light rail and cycling to safely co-exist. Even if you paved over every track on the Avenue no one would dare to bike on it.

Good read for anybody concerned about the Chestnut Hill West line always being too close to the chopping block. Getting the station-area population up to the citywide average through more housing construction would result in a lot more ridership
