Akosua, Democracy and Development Officer said: “Many postgrads and teaching staff won’t have the option to opt for in-person teaching. Have compassion for teaching staff who have had to consider striking to make sure their lives and lives of loved ones are not at risk.”

Womens’ Officer, Amara said: “This is a life and death situation, the choice people are proposing could lead to the death of human beings if we don’t move teaching online. Mental health comes into play in both instances, people being forced into seminars with no online option.”

She added: “The UCU has voted to strike. It’s online teaching or no teaching.”

Jonathan Downing said: “I think the SU should set about working with the University to solve the problem. Guidelines aren’t being followed but the problem isn’t in the classrooms, but the halls of residence. The University needs to increase security to shut down campus parties.”

Responding to the points made, Megan said she has been doing a lot of work with the University to improve online learning for disabled students. She added that in-person teaching should not continue during a national lockdown.
