🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷 What a transformation. A couple of months ago the French were grumpy and pessimistic about their country’s chance of hosting a successful Olympic Games. Now eight in ten French people say that they believe the Paris Games will be a  triumph 1/

"Imagine moving to a new town, walking into city hall, receiving a list of family physicians, and then being assigned the family physician of your choice." Outstanding article by Dr Mark Unger describing a high-functioning health system in... Denmark. thestar.com/opinion/contri…

Kind of a big deal: GPT-4 simulates people well enough to replicate social science experiments with high accuracy Note this is done by having the AI prompted to respond to survey questions as a person given random demographic characteristics & surveying thousands of "AI people"

This apartment building needed new balcony railings. So the landlord put in solar panels. The Etobicoke-made solar panels incorporated into the facade are so effective they don’t even need to point at the sun. trib.al/5Ju8eeT

We need to substantial reforms to every stream of the TFW program. In particular, the non-agriculture low-wage stream should end as soon as possible. Completely abolish it. There is simply no justification for it. Cara Stern and I discuss the idea here: youtube.com/watch?v=Gw3mZW…

The underlying issue that needs more discussion is whether life or death policy decisions should be based on political ideology or whether we agree that health services should be evidence based, and trying to deliver the best outcomes for the population in the fairest way.

Powerful piece, with some uncomfortable observations. '... proponents of income redistribution were less likely to give blood. “If everyone in the population gave at the same rate as government aid advocates, the supply would drop by about 30 percent."' A short 🧵-->

While #Ottawa Mayor Mark Sutcliffe continues to endlessly raise fares and inch us closer to a transit death spiral, Burlington considers free transit for all. They've already made transit free for seniors which has seen a dramatic increase in ridership. cbc.ca/news/canada/ha…

Wonderful editorial about the joys of swimming. Totally agree that we should ensure that every Canadian has the opportunity to learn to swim safely and we should build the pools & ensure clean lakes and rivers so everyone has access. I'm all in to help!

Marlene Engelhorn, an heiress to a pharmaceutical fortune, enlisted 50 people to redistribute 25 million euros from her inheritance. This didn’t make her noble or virtuous, she insisted. “I’m not a ‘good’ rich person. I’m just a rich person,” she said. nyer.cm/44PO3MY
