Simply amazing that we've broken the all-time world heat record for the second consecutive year. See my summary of the past weekend's western U.S. heat wave, which toppled numerous all-time records: yaleclimateconnections.org/2021/07/death-…

According to an email from weather historian Chris Burt, 21 U.S. cities with a long-term period of record (POR) set their record for all-time hottest month in history in July 2021. Really amazing to see Omak, WA, crush its previous hottest month by a full 3°F:

Stop by my virtual talk on Monday at #AMS2022 (ams.confex.com/ams/102ANNUAL/…)! I'll be sharing our latest work on using explainable neural networks to compare regional climate patterns in large ensembles and observations in the #Arctic 🙂

Last month observed highly anomalous temperature patterns in the Northern Hemisphere and a clear La Niña signature in the equatorial Pacific. Overall, the average December global air temperature was +0.86°C above 1951-1980 climate baseline (GISTEMPv4 data).
